Spread over an area of 16 thousand square meters, this beautiful lake houses numerous wonders of nature as well as many species of birds.

Within the city limits of Balıkesir, Manyas welcomes visitors who want to explore the variety of natural wonders of the area.

Attractions

Turkey's first bird sanctuary which holds a Class A Wetland Certificate, Lake Manyas is a unique region which shelters 3 million of bird species every year.

The months from March to July and September to October are the most suitable periods for birding. The camera system established on distant spots so as not to disturb the birds, the bird observation tower and museum have been established to contribute to the study of bird species.

The feeding and breeding area and shelter of dozens of bird species, Manyas Lake is a natural park of international importance. Home to 266 bird species, 118 plant species and 23 fish and reptile species in its lake, the park is a terrific spot for nature exploration and observation.

Marked for its unique ecosystem and harmonious flora and fauna, Manyas reveals terrific scenery. A congenial environment for nature’s precious creatures due to its temperate climate the region is home to a variety of colonies of species.

The Manyas National Park shelters a variety of bird species such as the Dalmatian pelican, cormorant and heron in addition to fish varieties such as the carp, catfish and pike fish.

Events

The sanctuary of many precious species for many years, the authorities of the Manyas Bird Paradise organize the International Bandirma Bird Paradise Cultural and Tourism Festival every year to draw attention to the significance of the region and to create environmental awareness.

Organized since 1987, the festival program includes a wide range of enjoyable activities, meetings and entertainment organized with the participation of numerous guests.

How can I get there?

Housing the worldwide largest bird observation tower, Manyas Lake is situated in a city with convenient transportation options.

Located in Bandırma district of Balıkesir province, Manyas encompasses a region which is easily accessible via highway. You can fly in to Balıkesir either from Istanbul or Ankara and continue your journey by taking a cap or getting on one of the public buses leaving to Manyas.
