Turkey Hosted the World Leaders in 2013

In 2013, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met 12 presidents, 9 heads of state, 2 vice-presidents, 13 speakers of assembly, and 20 prime ministers as well as a number of ministers and leaders of international organizations.

During 2013 upon the invitation of President Abdullah Gül 21 presidents paid visits to Turkey - a frequent destination for world leaders. Prime Minister Erdoğan also welcomed the presidents in the Prime Minister´s offices both in Istanbul and Ankara. Owing to the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Turkish and Mexican relations, Enrique Peña Nieto, the Mexican President visited
Turkey in December. Mr. Nieto was the first Mexican President to visit Turkey after 85 years, which attributed an even more special meaning to the visit. Among the leaders who visited Turkey during 2013 was Robert Ameerali, the Vice President of Surinam; Essam Haddad, the Vice President of Egypt and Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.

Close Contacts with Prime Ministers and Ministers

Prime Minister Erdoğan discussed in detail not only the bilateral relations but also global and regional matters with the 20 prime ministers who visited Turkey during 2013. Moreover, certain joint ministerial cabinet meetings were also arranged. Prime Minister Erdoğan also met with many ministers and senior bureaucrats, among whom were John Kerry, Secretary of State of the United States; Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait; Safar Abiyev, Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan; Dr. Mohammed Magariaf, President of the General National Congress of Libya; Bakir Izzetbegovich, Bosniak member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina; Salman Khurshid, Minister of Foreign Affairs of India; Carl Bildt, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden and Mesud Barzani, President of the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government.
